Sensei Johnson began his training at the University of Minnesota- Duluth in 1976, under Senseis John Gutterman and Robert Fusaro. He joined the Cleveland Shotokan Karate Club and the ISKF in 1980, and tested for advanced ranks under Hidetaka Nishiyama, Yutaka Yaguchi, and Master Masatoshi Nakayama. Teaching the Women’s class with an emphasis on “Mind before body, spirit before technique,” Sensei Johnson recognizes that each student has individual goals and aspirations for their karate, yet he brings all students together and uses karate as a guide to everyday life.
